THE GRAVE IS EMPTY
Life has triumphed over death and the gift of salvation is ours through Jesus Christ our savior!
"Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could embalm him. Very early on Sunday morning, as the sun rose, they went to the tomb. They worried out loud to each other, “Who will roll back the stone from the tomb for us?”
Then they looked up, saw that it had been rolled back—it was a huge stone—and walked right in. They saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed all in white. They were completely taken aback, astonished.
He said, “Don’t be afraid. I know you’re looking for Jesus the Nazarene, the One they nailed on the cross. He’s been raised up; he’s here no longer. You can see for yourselves that the place is empty. Now—on your way. Tell his disciples and Peter that he is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You’ll see him there, exactly as he said.” - Mark 16:1-7
Pontius Pilate ordered Jesus put to death in a sham trial, and later, in collusion with the Pharisees, ordered the most powerful Army of its day to secure his tomb on the off-chance that the claim of Jesus rising after three days might be true!
Once again, man's meager plan crumbled in the presence of a mighty God as Jesus was alive! He appeared for the next 40 days to more than 500 people on 12 different occasions before ascending to heaven.
Because the resurrection of Jesus, we have the assurance that our sins are paid for, the knowledge that death has been defeated, and the hope of eternal life when we repent and turn to Christ, accepting what He has done for us. Hallelujah!
Leader Prayer: "Lord, we rejoice in the resurrection! Thank you for the gift we could never repay from your son Jesus, who gave His life so we may live! May our prayer be that we would have the strength and courage to pick up our cross and daily follow Him, to His glory!"
